Why study the Doctor of Medicine?
The MD-Ochsner is a postgraduate medical program offered in partnership with Ochsner Health System.

What you can study
Years 1 and 2 are completed in Brisbane and combine biomedical sciences, public health, medical ethics and clinical skills training in a case-based learning context, focused around a series of patient-centred cases. Early patient contact, clinical reasoning and research training are embedded to develop advanced clinical skills and medical knowledge required for evidence-based clinical practice.
In Years 3 and 4 clinical placements are organised around 10 core medical disciplines, predominantly delivered in New Orleans.

Placement courses
Clinical Placements are an integral component of the MD program. Years 3 and 4 of the program, also known as the clinical placement phase or Phase 2, consist of 10 core clinical rotations. These introduce students to and define the scope of each medical discipline, as well as providing a foundation on which to progress to postgraduate training.
Ochsner students undertake the majority of their clinical placements at the Ochsner Clinical School in Louisiana but must complete at least one x Year 4 placement in Australia. Placements include Mental Health, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Surgery.
There are a number of requirements that students must meet prior to commencing clinical placement:
- A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
- A current First Aid Certificate (including CPR)
- Evidence of immunisation
Students are liable for any additional costs associated with attending clinical placements.

Direct Entry for Graduates: This program is only available to USA citizens/permanent residents. Applicants must apply via MedEdPath so should ignore any advice to the contrary. The key degree must have been completed within the ten year period preceding the proposed commencement date. A minimum score in GAMSAT (50 in each of the 3 sections) or MCAT (TBA) is also required. English language proficiency:This program requires a higher level of English language proficiency than the UQ minimum. For IELTS, an overall band score of 7 AND a minimum score of 7 in each sub-band of writing, reading, speaking and listening is required. Interview: Prospective students will be required to attend an interview in New Orleans.

To fulfil the requirements of the Doctor of Medicine, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
#64 units are required.
