Additional application information
Psychotherapy or Family Therapy - also requires 1 year work experience in the field of mental health, and the capacity to meet practicum requirements.
Mental Health Nursing - requires applicants be registered to practice as a nurse in Australia, and be engaged in an field of nursing practice requiring mental health skills.
Art Therapy is the only area that has a second semester intake and requires a degree or Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Mental Health and meet the Art Practice entrance standard and the Clinical Experience entrance standard and undertake an interview. Depending on the field of study chosen and the nature of the placement, students may be required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing their placement. Why study the Master of Mental Health?
The Master of Mental Health provides systematic training designed to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to contemporary mental health practice. Candidates receive advanced training in a variety of evidence based interventions and the theoretical principles that underpin them. Teaching is provided by highly experienced practitioners and/or researchers, many of whom have national or international reputations for scholarship and/or professional practice. Students have the opportunity to undertake both structured and independent learning assignments and study in a flexible environment that respects concurrent professional commitments.
The mode of study of courses and location of offering varies depending on the field of study chosen. Please check the entry for the particular field of study that you wish to study for more information.
This is particularly important for international students as some courses are only offered externally and residential schools are required for some of these courses.
What you can study
Domestic students undertake the program on a part-time basis over 2 years at a rate of 6 units (3 courses) per semester. International students undertake the program on a full-time basis over 1.5 years at a rate of 8 units (4 courses) per semester. Each course has a value of 2 units.

Placement courses
The University provides group supervision in relation to practicum courses. Students are also required to have an 'on-site' supervisor and any costs associated with this supervision are the responsibility of the student.'

To complete the Master of Mental Health
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Mental Health, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #24 from the MMH List
- all of Part A; and
- the balance from Part B
