The Bachelor of Health Sciences provides a broad overview of healthcare and is suited to both clinical and non-clinical health careers.
Students seeking a clinical career (treating or testing patients) may complete this program and then, subject to meeting entry requirements, enrol in a clinical postgraduate degree such as the Doctor of Medicine or Master of Dietetics Studies.
For non-clinical students it offers studies in health promotion, health management and public health, leading to careers in planning and delivery of efficient quality healthcare.
For students seeking Provisional Entry to the Doctor of Medicine, the Bachelor of Health Sciences is a preferred pathway, providing future medical practitioners with a solid grounding in biomedical sciences, public health, healthcare ethics, behavioural sciences and the healthcare system.

Placement courses
HLTH3001 Practicum in Health Sciences has been developed to provide final year Health Science students with hands-on experience in a health-related work environment. The placement uses the student's accumulated knowledge and skill base and prepares them for future employment within the health care industry. The placement delivers important vocational skills and provides students with complementary workplace-based experience.
Students are required to hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and have received a Hepatitis B vaccination.

What you can do with a Bachelor of Health Sciences
Careers
Graduates may work in either the public and private health care sectors, dealing with health issues as varied as anti-smoking campaigns, communicable disease, drug and alcohol use, Indigenous health, chronic disease and women's health.
Those students seeking non-clinical careers in health promotion or health services management will be at the front-line in improving health care delivery through their roles as health promotion officers, health managers, nutritionists and health researchers. As with most 3-year University degrees, employment prospects and remuneration will be enhanced by further study.
Students seeking a clinical career (treating or testing patients) may complete this program and then, subject to entry requirements, pursue a clinical postgraduate or graduate-entry degree such as the Doctor of Medicine or Master of Dietetics Studies.
Completion of an Honours year and a PhD may lead to an academic career in the university sector.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Health Sciences
To complete the Bachelor of Health Sciences
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Health Sciences, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #48 from the BHlthSc List, comprising -
- for students undertaking the nutrition major:
- #28 for Part A compulsory courses in the nutrition major; and
- #12 for Part B in the Nutrition major; and
- #8 from Part C elective courses.
- for students undertaking other majors:
- #30 for Part A compulsory courses; and
- #10 from Part B in the selected major; and
- #8 from Part C elective courses.
