Additional application information
- With the exception of Food Science & Nutrition, Integrated Resource Management, Veterinary Technology and Exercise & Nutrition Sciences majors or extended majors, all fields are offered in internal and external modes
- An internal student attends lectures, tutorials and practicals on campus. An external student receives instruction by mail, or via the internet. Regardless of whether you study in internal or external mode the program is the same
- Courses offered in the external mode may have residential school requirements
- It is an expectation that students will have private access to a computer and the internet
- Students are not admitted to the Veterinary Technology extended major until the fourth semester of the Bachelor of Applied Science. There is a quota of 30 students admitted to the fourth semester. The final year of the Veterinary Technology extended major is available in internal mode only
- Internal students undertaking the Equine Science extended major, will at some stage require their own equitation horse. Agistment is available on campus

Why study the Bachelor of Applied Science?
Applied Science is the science of applying knowledge from one or more natural scientific fields to practical problems. The study of Applied Science at the University of Queensland will provide you with not only a broad understanding of a variety of scientific principles but also the skill to apply your knowledge to solve problems and provide solutions to a variety of situations - vital skills sought by employers and therefore a particular advantage when entering the workforce.
The Bachelor of Applied Science will provide you with a broad background in basic sciences. The degree offers a flexible three year program with a diverse range of specialisations, depending on your career aspirations making it possible to enter into a wide range of industries.
You are able to tailor your study by selecting either one Extended Major (see information below) or alternatively you could choose two single majors to combine two areas of interest. Single majors include: Animal Science, Animal and Plant Biosecurity, Conservation Management, Integrated Resource Management, Plants, Regional and Rural Business Management, and Wildlife Management.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Applied Science
To complete the Bachelor of Applied Science
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Applied Science, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
Students are required to obtain #48 comprising -
- #16 of core courses;
- one extended major from Part A of the
BAppSc list
OR
two single majors from Part B of the BAppSc List. - the balance are electives from Part C or Part D or other courses in the BAppSc list
Pre-2004 students should complete all the courses, or their equivalents, listed in Part A in the year in which they first enrolled.
