Why study Public Education?

The field of study in public education is designed to provide teachers with relevant professional knowledge, practices and values to ensure high standards of teaching and leadership throughout Queensland schools.

Upon successful completion of the field of study students will be able to: (i) deploy relevant academic and professional knowledge to inform their teaching and leadership roles in schools; (ii) apply educational theories and related practices in relevant ways to improve learning outcomes for students; (iii) conduct field-based research that contributes in a logical and coherent manner to professional knowledge and know-how; (iv) demonstrate local leadership in professional practice; (v) demonstrate the ability to conceptualise, plan, implement and report on practice to an audience of other professionals.

This field is not available to international students due to the number of external courses required to complete the field exceeding the limit of the number external courses permitted for international students on a student visa.

What you can study

Specific areas of interest in Queensland public education will be addressed with reference to key Education Queensland (EQ) policy documents and frameworks that underpin leadership, pedagogy, assessment, and curriculum. Students will draw upon relevant evidence in designing and implementing projects in their teaching and leadership contexts. Teachers' work and leadership roles will be framed in terms of both a futures orientation and a broad understanding of public education and the role of schools in creating and maintaining a civic realm of shared knowledge values and social practices.
