Why study Counselling?
This field prepares students for research and practice in counselling psychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice, and research experience. Counselling psychologists help individuals, families and groups in areas related to personal well-being, interpersonal relationships, work, recreation and health. They are trained to assist people who are experiencing both acute and chronic life crises. Counselling psychologists are employed in a number of areas where therapeutic counselling is an important focus, such as non-government counselling and crisis organisations, school counselling and health and wellness settings. Counselling psychologists may also offer therapy within private practice. Graduates are eligible for registration as psychologists in Australia and for associate membership in the College of Counselling Psychologists.
