Course description

In this course, we explore the relationship between development and inequality in a world political context. We will introduce and analyse historical trajectories of development and their continuing contemporary relevance, covering some of the most important theories and issues through which we can come to a better understanding of political struggles over social change. Among the issues we cover are colonialism and its legacies, trade, hunger, environmental change, gender, human rights, and mega-sports-events, and we will also encounter a wide range of actors and agencies involved in shaping and contesting relations of development and inequality in a global context.
