Course description
This Course will further optimise Pharmacy students' skills, knowledge, and professional attributes as `practitioners-in-training'. Students will start learning about the pharmacy practice implications of the medicines available only on prescription. The Course content is focused on the Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) within the areas of mental health, and certain neurological, gastrointestinal, and endocrine disorders. Non-medical treatments will also be considered. The aim of the Course teachings is to encourage students to learn about the therapeutic approaches used in contemporary pharmacy practice. Students will build their individual capacity for learning through a variety of Course teaching approaches and activities - discussion of key core knowledge and QUM concepts, information retrieval, fine-tuning of communication and interpersonal skills, guidance through critical thinking in pharmacy practice, problem solving, considerations around decision making (including occasional ambiguity), and participation in experiential learning (in community and hospital pharmacy placements).
