Course description

This course is committed to developing students' skills, knowledge, and professional attributes required for contemporary pharmacy practice. Students will have an opportunity to learn the legal, professional and ethical aspects involved in medicine supply and interaction with the consumers (patients). The focus is on treatment of common ailments encountered in the Australian community pharmacy (e.g. those affecting gastrointestinal and upper respiratory tracts and various types of pain). The course aims to introduce key approaches to modern pharmacy practice, including effective use of resources, information retrieval, adverse drug reactions, evidence-based medicine and decision making, and considerations of special patient populations. Students will develop a process for safe and professional dispensing, continue to enhance their communication skills, and embrace the concept of patient-centred care.
