Course description

This course provides students an introduction to the role of the registered nurse in providing care for individuals with complex and persisting health issues. The course reflects the Australian National Chronic Disease Strategy. There is an emphasise on the principles for effective prevention and management of persistent or recurrent conditions. A key tenet of this course is the centrality of the individual and their support systems, including families, and the registered nurse's role as advocate. The course is situated in a primary healthcare framework and enables students to develop their theoretical knowledge and skills around health promotion, prevention, early intervention and the promotion of self-management in the context of chronic conditions.
