Course description

This course introduces students to the concepts of foundational knowledge related to providing safe and high quality care in a person centred environment. This will involve developing a professional identity and sense of self as a professional nurse or midwife, developing therapeutic communication skills, and clinical decision-making skills. The course integrates theory related to professional practice using flipped class room approaches. Learning activities are aimed at integrating students' understanding of the social and cultural influences on health and healthcare, and professional, legal and ethical responsibilities of a beginning practitioner.
