Course description

This course continues to develop the basic clinical skills taught in MEDI7121 and MEDI7122 by exposing students to patients under supervision, and possibly, in their own time*. The course interlocks numerous complementary learning activities: Clinical Coaching, Clinical Communication Skills tutorials, and skills workshops in Clinical Ophthalmology*, Venepuncture*, Suturing*, Endocrine examination*, and Advanced Life Support*. Clinical Coaching conducted under supervision at the patient's bedside* enables students to: progress their skills in comprehensive history taking and system-based physical examination*; transition to focused history taking and focused physical examination*; and, to develop the complex clinical reasoning skills necessary to progress into Year 3. Clinical Communication Skills tutorials are dedicated skills development sessions based on difficult and challenging communication scenarios faced by medical professionals. Clinical skills workshops develop selected skills required by the junior doctor. *As and if COVID-19 restrictions permit.
