Module description

Being an Adult Language Learner in a Language Revitalisation context is a Shorter Form Credential offered through the School of Languages and Cultures. It is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are involved in and have some knowledge of language revitalisation work in their community.

It is one of four modules, which make up the suite Introduction to Language Revitalisation Studies, under development.

Learning language in a revitalisation context is distinct from other language learning contexts. Family, culture, country and history connect adults to the languages they are seeking to regain, in deep and unique ways. Language learners must work with elders and community members to gather language knowledge and adhere to protocols, in the collaborative and on-going task of revitalising a language. Though in relatively few contexts organised language classes available, learning language is a key task for adults involved in language revitalisation. In this course, you will learn techniques and strategies to learn language, to access, use and share learning materials and to set achievable goals to progress your language learning journey in your context.

In 2022, this module runs from 13 June to 25 July, including an on-campus 4-day intensive from 4 to 8 July. Apply by Thursday, 23 June 2022.
