Course description
This course which is held over a period of 14 weeks involves continuous, structured industry experience in a production or service enterprise. It enables the students to apply their theoretical knowledge and research skills developed earlier in their Masters (Advanced) program to that industry and to acquire greater understanding of industry operations and requirements which will enhance their career opportunities. It is expected that in turn the student will provide valuable contributions to the host organisation. During the period of professional experience, the student will be subject to the conditions of employment laid down by the company and in accordance with company policy and regulations. A member of University staff is appointed as a supervisor for each student and each employer is required to appoint a supervisor for the student. The academic supervisor will meet with the student at least twice during the placement period to discuss progress with the employer and the student. Interstate and international placements will only be permitted if a staff member can visit at least once during the placement or maintain contact via e-mail or the internet. Students are required to submit assessable items during and at the conclusion of the placement. The industry supervisor will also assess the student's performance.
