Course description
Mining and processing of mineral ores and energy resources has significant impacts on both mine sites and operational refinery and processing lands. This course will examine the major land and water impacts of mining and refining activities, and introduce land rehabilitation concepts specific to the management of sites impacted by mining and refining activities. Lectures will be supported by field work to examine rehabilitation strategies in action, and laboratory work to give hands-on analytical experience. This course runs a 2-day field trip to visit sites at Mount Morgan and Gladstone. Additional field-trip fees are payable. In the event that students complete the fieldwork and then subsequently withdraw from this course without financial liability, the School reserves the right to charge full cost recovery for this fieldtrip.
