Course description
This course introduces students to Shakespeare's theatrical world, and is structured around four key themes: Drama and the Body of the State; Gender and Sexuality; Constructing the Supernatural; and Nation and Empire. Students will study selected plays by Shakespeare and by his major contemporaries, such as Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson, to gain a better understanding of Shakespeare's work and the theatrical, literary, and political contexts that shaped it.
