Course description
This course is the second in a series of three in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree. This cornerstone course continues to prepare preservice teachers for learning and teaching Language, Literature and Literacy—the three interrelated strands of the Australian Curriculum: English Learning Area. Preservice teachers will focus on language variation and construction; responding to and examining Literature; and responding to and interpreting and analysing a range of different texts. Preservice teachers will also develop a repertoire of teaching strategies and practices related to the teaching reading and writing in subject English and identify a range of assessment techniques and strategies suitable for students from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. They will continue to engage with comprehending and composing traditional and multimodal texts that require skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing. Preservice teachers will also plan an overview of an inquiry in the English Learning Area using contemporary models of Literacy education, knowledge gained from professional learning, and teaching networks.
