Course description
An advanced course providing an integrated approach to the anatomy, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, pathology and pharmacology of the endocrine system. This course covers secretion and physiological roles of blood-borne and local hormonal mediators. This includes hormonal signalling and mechanisms regulating cell growth, metabolism, reproduction, and cardio-renal function. This course also examines consequences of and treatments for defects in the endocrine system, illustrated using clinical disorders that affect many people world-wide (e.g. those arising from obesity).
