Course description
This course explores key issues and debates in understanding Australia as a nation, a culture and a society. Topics examine the forces shaping contemporary Australia and their historical context. The course is designed for both local and international students. AUST1000 is an interdisciplinary course, just as Australian Studies is an interdisciplinary field. Students will be introduced to recent developments in the fields of media/cultural studies, literature, history, politics, Indigenous studies and gender studies. A range of cultural texts including film, television, print media and advertisements will be used to develop the key concepts of the course.
