Course description
The course is intended to provide students with a broad understanding of the field of medical anthropology as it applies to the field of international and community development. Course content will address topics such as cross cultural issues relating to health and illness in a variety of developed and developing country scenarios, public health anthropology, key social science approaches to global health, health and gender, the role of health organisations in addressing illness and disease in contingent settings, and the health of vulnerable populations. Topical subjects such as refugee health, transcultural mental health, maternal and child health, indigenous health and disability will be addressed.
