Course description
Tropical Agriculture will introduce students to the intensive tropical agricultural systems of Southeast Asia, and Thailand in particular. The course involves a 3 week study tour to Thailand including about 2.5 weeks in Northeast Thailand based at khon Kaen University. The objective is to familiarize students with the agricultural environment, and diverse array of production systems and resources in Thailand as well as its rich cultural heritage. Students will be able to reflect on the similarities and differences between agriculture in Thailand and Australia; and they will gain an appreciation of Thai culture and society. The course will be assessed by a series of diaries during the field trip, and a major assignment and seminar on return to Australia.
