Program and course requirements

Complete 32 units comprising:

  • 6 units for all MCivilEng(Prof) Core Courses, and
  • 4 units from MCivilEng(Prof) Research Project Courses, and
  • 10 units for MCivilEng(Prof) Advanced Undergraduate Electives Courses, and
  • 12 units for MCivilEng(Prof) Postgraduate Elective Courses

Complete 10 units comprising:

MCivilEng(Prof) Postgraduate Elective Courses

Water and Environmental Postgraduate Elective Courses

Complete 0 to 2 units from the following:

CIVL71312 units
Urban Hydrology
Geotechnical Postgraduate Elective Courses
Transportation Postgraduate Elective Courses
Fire Postgraduate Elective Courses

Additional Rules

1. Hurdle requirements

You must complete the following program-level hurdle requirement/s:

  • Professional practice

You must—

  1. complete 430 hours of professional practice approved by the executive dean, and
  2. satisfactorily complete assessment pertaining to that professional practice, as determined by the executive dean.


2. Recognition of prior learning

This program is subject to the following credit limits in conjunction with Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedure:

  • Credit may only be granted on the basis of study completed at an Australian University, from an Engineers Australia accredited degree program.


3. Exit awards

  • Graduate Certificate in Engineering

If you withdraw from this program after completing 8 units from the Master of Civil Engineering (Professional) course list, you may apply to be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Engineering.

  •  Graduate Diploma in Engineering

If you withdraw from the program after completing 16 units from the Master of Civil Engineering (Professional) course list, you may apply to be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Engineering in the field of Civil Engineering.
