Additional Rules

1. Program requirements

advanced course means a course from the advanced courses section

You must complete at least 6 units of advanced courses comprising —

  • a minimum of 4 units of advanced courses at level 2 or higher, and
  • a minimum of 2 units of advanced courses at level 3.

2. Program plan

  • Each major must include 8 units of courses at level 3 or higher, taken from that major’s list and counted towards no other plan.
  • Each minor and UQ minor must include 4 units of courses at level 2 or higher, taken from that minor’s list and counted towards no other plan.
  • If you are completing the Physics single major you must also complete MATH1051 or MATH1071MATH1052 or MATH1072MATH2001, and MATH2100. These courses may be completed as an Applied Mathematics minor or as part of fulfilling the requirements for another major in the BAdvSc(Hons).
  • Where the program is undertaken with more than one plan, any course listed more than once must be substituted in one plan by a course at the same level or higher from the list for that plan, or from the BAdvSc(Hons) course list (excluding general elective courses).
  • field of study means a prescribed combination of 16 units from the honours courses section
  • major means a prescribed combination of 16 units from the major section
  • minor means a prescribed combination of 8 units from the minor section
  • plan means a minor, UQ minor, or major
  • UQ minor means 8 units from the UQ minor section

3. Class of honours

Specific requirements apply to the awarding of honours in this program. The class of honours is calculated on the basis of the grade point average of the grades obtained by a student in the first attempt at all honours courses in the program. Refer to Bachelor Honours Degrees for more information.

4. Exit awards

If you withdraw from the program after completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Science program, you may apply and be awarded the Bachelor of Science.

5. Progression intervention

Academic standing in this program is subject to the following requirements in addition to the requirements in the Academic Progression Procedure.

  • If you receive a progression intervention notice you will have your progression improvement plan considered by the associate dean (academic), who may:
  • approve re-enrolment in the BAdvSc(Hons) program; or
  • refuse re-enrolment in the BAdvSc(Hons) program but approve enrolment in the Bachelor of Science; or
  • refuse enrolment in any program for a maximum period of 12 months.


  • If you have your enrolment in the BAdvSc(Hons) program refused under subrule "refuse re-enrolment in the BAdvSc(Hons) program but approve enrolment in the Bachelor of Science", you may apply for readmission to the BAdvSc(Hons) in a future semester provided you meet the admission requirements.


  • If you have your enrolment in any program refused for up to 12 months under subrule "refuse enrolment in any program for a maximum period of 12 months", you must lodge an updated progression improvement plan after the relevant period, to be considered for permission to re-enrol. If enrolment is approved, you -
  • will be changed to the Bachelor of Science, and
  • may apply for readmission to the BAdvSc(Hons) in a future semester provided you meet the admission requirements.


  • You may only enrol in BAdvSc(Hons) Honours Courses if you have completed at least 40 units, including 6 units for BAdvSc(Hons)Core Courses, and 34 units from either the BAdvSc(Hons) One Major Option or BAdvSc(Hons)Two Major Option. This must include BAdvSc(Hons) Advanced Courses as specified in rule 1 Program Requirements (above).
