Program and course requirements

Complete 48 units comprising:

  • 32 units for BA Courses, and
  • 16 units for BA Elective Courses

Selected courses must include at most 24 units at level 1.

Selected courses must include at least 8 units at level 3.

No more than 32 units may be completed from courses with the same discipline descriptor.

The BA Major in Chinese or BA Minor in Chinese can NOT be undertaken with the BA Major in Chinese Translation and Interpreting or BA Minor in Chinese Translation and Interpreting.

The BA Major in French or BA Minor in French can NOT be undertaken with the BA Major in French Advanced or BA Minor in French Advanced.

The BA Major in Japanese or BA Minor in Japanese can NOT be undertaken with the BA Extended Major in Japanese Advanced, BA Major in Japanese Advanced, or BA Minor in Japanese Advanced.

Additional Rules

1.Progression through program

  • You must complete the first 8 units from courses listed in BA Courses and/or BA Program Elective Courses.
  • You can complete a maximum of 32 units of courses with the same discipline descriptor. These are the four alpha characters at the beginning of the course code, for example, POLS or PSYC or MUSC.

2. Cross-listed courses

As a course can only be credited once, the following course replacement rules apply where a course is listed in more than one of your selected plans (minor, major or extended major).

  • If the course is compulsory in more than one plan, it will be credited towards one plan only. You must replace the compulsory course in the second plan, with a course chosen from the second plan, at the same level or higher.
  • If the course is compulsory in one plan only, it will be credited towards the plan in which it is compulsory. You must select the alternative course in the second plan, with a course chosen from the second plan, at the same level or higher.
  • If the course is an elective in more than one plan, it will be credited towards one plan only.
