Prerequisites
- a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below), or
- a Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies (or equivalent), or
- a Graduate Certificate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution (or equivalent), or
- a Graduate Certificate in International Studies from the University, or
- a Graduate Diploma in International Studies from the University, or
- a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline plus 3 years full-time equivalent, relevant work experience (see below) with documented evidence (such as references).
Relevant disciplines include degrees with a sequence of study in peace and conflict studies, international relations, political science, sociology, cultural studies, history, economics or political economy, anthropology or ethnography, or law.
You must have completed at least a major, field of study, or approximately 30% of program content in the discipline, including a mix of introductory and advanced courses.
Relevant work experience may be paid or voluntary and includes:
- work in a relevant peace and conflict organisation including community organisations, non-governmental organisations, government agencies, or other cognate organisations, that may include work experience in: planning, research, management, implementation or evaluation of domestic or international peacebuilding, mediation, conflict resolution, transitional justice and cognate efforts to manage conflict or facilitate peace, and
- a demonstration of computer literacy, research and writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Why study the Master of Peace and Conflict Studies?
The Master in Peace and Conflict Studies is a coursework program aimed at developing conceptual and empirical understanding and skill sets in research and knowledge development in the field of peace and conflict. Students will gain an advanced understanding of how conflicts emerge and how they can be managed and solved in a nonviolent manner. Topics covered span from the local to the global and include issues such as peacebuilding, conflict resolution and prevention, mediation, nonviolence, gender and security as well as peace and development.
What you can study
MPaCS is a uniquely flexible program designed to prepare you to confront a range of global issues.
We offer a comprehensive range of courses in areas such as conflict resolution, mediation, peace building and human protection work. You can choose to focus on coursework or undertake a research thesis over two semesters. Students also have the opportunity for fieldwork working closely with an organization in Australia or overseas.
A Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies is also available.

Program rules for the Master of Peace and Conflict Studies
To complete the Master of Peace and Conflict Studies
To graduate with a Master of Peace and Conflict Studies a student must have successfully completed all requirements of the program as certified by the Executive Dean. This includes courses to be taken to complete the program and any other specific conditions of the program including admission, enrolment and progression requirements.
