Prerequisites
An approved degree in the same discipline with a GPA of 5; or
A GCIR* or GCIS* or GDipIS* from the university with a GPA of 5; or
An approved degree in any discipline with a GPA of 5 and a minimum of three years professional experience, approved by the executive dean.
Same discipline is defined as a degree with a sequence of study in peace and conflict studies, international relations, political science, sociology, cultural studies, media studies, communication, economics/political economy, anthropology or ethnography,and law.
Professional experience requirements same discipline can be demonstrated with 3 years work experience in a relevant organisation. Relevant professional experience may include work experience in the planning, management and/or implementation of international policy and/or governance initiatives, including work for international organisations, non-governmental organisations, government agencies, social movements, and the international business community. The experience should demonstrate basic computer literacy, research and writing skills, and ability to work collaboratively. Unless otherwise stated, the minimum amount of relevant work experience is 3 years full-time equivalent (paid or voluntary), with documented evidence (i.e. references).
*Please note the GCIR or GCIS or GDipIS can only be used as the basis of entry into the program if you already have an existing approved degree in the same discipline.

Why study the Master of International Relations?
The Master of International Relations (MIR) is a coursework program aimed at developing conceptual and empirical understanding and skill sets in research and knowledge in the IR field. The MIR builds on a core set of four courses covering the main elements of IR. Students will also be able to focus on a range of elective options covering fields such as IR of the Asian Pacific, Law and International Politics, Security and Statecraft, and Globalisation and Development. A research dissertation option is also available.
What you can study
Within the program there are more than 30 course options that allow you to acquire theoretical knowledge and study contemporary problems.
You can choose to focus on coursework, or undertake a research thesis over two semesters. Students also have the opportunity for fieldwork working closely with an organization in Australia or overseas.
A Graduate Certificate in International Relations is also available.
An applicant's background degree and work experience will determine eligibility for the program.

To fulfil the requirements of the Master of International Relations, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
