Entry requirements

Prerequisites

Early applications received by the 30 April will be considered in an initial assessment round, additional applications will be considered through to the 31 August where spaces remain available within each discipline. Please note that due to limited places, entry is competitive and not all applicants who meet the entry requirements are offered a place.
To be eligible for entry, you'll need to:

  • Hold an approved degree in dentistry from UQ (or equivalent)
  • Have a minimum two years of graduate clinical experience.
  • Hold general or limited registration with the Dental Board of Australia.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 4.0 [Note the GPA cut-off for 2024 was 5.2].
 Upon application please provide:
  • Evidence of the above listed items.
  • A copy of your CV.
  • Names and contact details for 2 (two) professional references.
  • A completed personal statement.

Why study the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry?

UQ's Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) is a three year full-time Level 9 extended Masters (Australian Qualifications Framework) leading to a registrable specialist qualification. You will experience: Interdisciplinary learning and undertake patient care at the state-of-the-art Oral Health Centre with the most modern equipment, technologies and teaching methods. Collegial support and interaction with specialists from the first week of your first year of study. Research focus over all three years of the program. The School of Dentistry offers the DClinDent program in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology, Endodontics, Oral Medicine, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Special Needs Dentistry.

What you can study

You will undertake a field of study related to your chosen specialty under the guidance of a supervisor which includes a component in basic and clinical sciences, a major clinical component in the nominated specialty, and a research project and report.

Limited places are available in each discipline and entry is determined using a competitive selection process based on academic records, other postgraduate qualifications, work and research experience since graduation, commitment to the discipline, referee reports and a Clinical Assessment Program undertaken in Brisbane for those who are shortlisted. Program rules for the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry

To complete the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry

To graduate with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry a student must have successfully completed all requirements of the program as certified by the Executive Dean. This includes courses to be taken to complete the program and any other specific conditions of the program including admission, enrolment and progression requirements.
