An approved 4-year bachelor degree in psychology (Honours I or IIA) or a combination of an approved 4-year degree in psychology and an approved masters degree.
Applicants with non-Australian degrees must have their qualifications assessed by the APS.
Additional application information
Applicants must nominate 3 referees and include the Psychology Additional Information form with their on-line application. Shortlisted candidates undertake an interview.
There is a quota of 25 students in the program. Offers will be made on the basis of highest academic rank, referees reports and interview. A limited number of places are available for suitably qualified people on the basis of equity and students identifying as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.
All successful applicants are required to apply for and gain provisional registration or if applicable, full registration, with the Psychology Board of Australia, which includes the Board's English Language Proficiency requirements. Students must have registration prior to commencing their study and this must be maintained for the duration of the program.
This program may have inherent requirements that need to be met prior to undertaking placement.
Students must obtain at the commencement of the program and thereafter hold for the duration of the program, a current Blue card.
For applicants who need to provide evidence of English proficiency, please note that this program requires a higher level of English language proficiency than the UQ minimum.

Why study the Doctor of Psychology?
This program is intended for practitioners who aspire to excellence and leadership in the profession of clinical psychology. The program entails a substantial empirical research thesis, specialist placements and advanced professionally oriented coursework, with opportunities for specialist concentration in areas such as child and family, clinical neuropsychology and older adults. Student's will gain a foundational knowledge of scientific bases and practice of clinical psychology as well as undertaking training in clinical practice which employs evidence-based best practice models in mental health settings.

Placement courses
Students will undertake 1,500 hours of supervised clinical practice in areas such as child and family, clinical neuropsychology and older adults. During their placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework and research to practice and develop their clinical skills in real life settings.

Students may be required to undertake clinical placements outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area and students are required to fund their travel, accommodation and daily living expenses.

To complete the Doctor of Psychology
To fulfil the requirements of the Doctor of Psychology, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #64 from the relevant DPsych field of study course list. Refer to the DPsych program rules for further information.
