Prerequisites
An approved degree in midwifery or equivalent and be eligible for an unrestricted licence to practice as a registered midwife in Australia.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to have recent and current practice as a Registered Midwife as some assessment items in the courses are designed to expand clinical practice skills.
International students who wish to undertake this program will not qualify for a Student Visa. To study this program in Australia, international students must hold alternative Australian Visa/Residency status with a sufficient study entitlement. See Department of Home Affairs for further details. Alternatively, for programs available in 'External' mode, students may study from their home country.

Why study the Master of Midwifery?
The Master of Midwifery is specifically designed for Bachelor of Midwifery graduates wanting to extend their midwifery knowledge and skills in a specialty field. You will undertake either a research or clinical practice project.
You will analyse contemporary midwifery practice from a variety of perspectives, developing an understanding of the professional issues and the impact of current political, economic and socio-cultural influences on the profession and midwifery practice. Clinical teaching and learning skills are also integral components of professional midwifery practice.
You will develop skills and knowledge that will prepare you for educational leadership roles within your own specified area of practice; enable you to educate, support and develop your colleagues; promote health education to your clients and support beginning practitioners entering the midwifery profession.
The program also provides opportunities to critically analyse contemporary models and frameworks for leadership and change management; and examine leadership concepts & issues.

What you can do with a Master of Midwifery
Careers
Midwives with postgraduate qualifications work in a variety of public or private health care settings, maternity and neonatal care settings, community health settings, academic/teaching, research, policy, rural and remote health, international aid organisations, and/or a combination of these areas.
Careers opportunities are according to the field of study you choose from:
- complex midwifery care
- advanced practice midwifery.
