Prerequisites
An approved bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent and be eligible to practice as a registered nurse in Australia.
Applicants must be working in a clinical area where there is mental health exposure.
The minimum GPA to be considered for admission into this program is 4.0.
International students who wish to undertake this program will not qualify for a Student Visa. To study this program in Australia, international students must hold alternative Australian Visa/Residency status with a sufficient study entitlement. See Department of Home Affairs for further details. Alternatively, for programs available in 'External' mode, students may study from their home country.

Why study the Master of Mental Health Nursing?
Mental health nursing is a rewarding career where you can make a positive difference to the lives of patients and their families. Mental health nurses are in high demand in a variety of fields within the mental health sector. This program will prepare students for specialist practice in the area of mental health nursing. It will develop a student's knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to contemporary mental health nursing practice. The program is taught by highly experienced and internationally-recognised practitioners and researchers.
The Master of Mental Health Nursing is designed to provide students with an advanced understanding of the theories, legislation, policies and standards that underpin mental health nursing. Students will develop practical skills that promote safe nursing practice and management of risk in a clinical setting.
What you can study
Students will experience a variety of evidence-based interventions as well as develop a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical principles that underpin these practices. Students can undertake both structured and independent learning assignments and study in a flexible environment that respects concurrent professional commitments. The program is designed to provide self-paced structured learning and includes both a program of reading and tasks designed to integrate reading into practice.

A number of courses within the program will require attendance on the St Lucia campus for a brief period of time.

Placement courses
Students will undertake approximately 200 hours of supervised clinical practice. During their placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework to practice and develop their clinical skills in real life setting. Supervised practice will occur within the student's work setting in mental health and support you in developing specialist mental health nursing skills.
