An approved 4-year bachelor degree in psychology (I or IIA honours) or equivalent 4-year APAC-accredited program.
Applicants with non-Australian degrees must have their qualifications assessed by the APS.

Applicants must submit the Psychology Additional Information form, academic transcripts, CV and nominate three referees^. Shortlisted candidates are required to undertake an interview. Offers will be made on the basis of academic achievement, referee reports and interview. There are limited places available for this program.
^ Referees must be: your honours supervisor, another academic staff member and a third person who knows you well. Referees cannot be provided by a near relative or close associate. Examples of near relatives are partner, child, sibling and parents. Examples of close associates are close friends, neighbours and children of colleagues.
Suitably qualified people who identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.
All successful applicants are required to apply for and gain provisional registration or if applicable, full registration, with the Psychology Board of Australia, which includes the Board's English Language Proficiency requirements. Students must have registration prior to commencing their study and must be maintained for the duration of the program.
This program may have inherent requirements that need to be met prior to undertaking placement.
Students must obtain at the commencement of the program and thereafter hold for the duration of the program, a current Blue card.
For applicants who need to provide evidence of English proficiency, please note that this program requires a higher level of English language proficiency than the UQ minimum.

Why study the Master of Applied Psychology?
The Master of Applied Psychology will give you skills and knowledge required to practice competently within the psychology profession across a range of roles. You will learn core professional skills such as psychological assessment, intervention and ethical practice, and content relevant to your specialisation.
The program offers you advanced coursework in your chosen stream of psychology specialist and generalist placements - supervised by highly experienced Supervisor Training and Approval Program accredited psychologists. Your research project will be supervised by highly trained staff, who teach in the program and are psychologists with relevant specialist knowledge and research experience.
Subject to approval, the field of Clinical Neuropsychology will be available from 2017.

Master of Applied Psychology
Placement courses
Students will undertake 1,000 hours of supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes not-for-profit organisations, community services, private practices and UQ's internal clinics. During their placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework and research to practice and develop their clinical skills in real life settings.

Students may be required to undertake clinical placements outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area and students are required to fund their travel, accommodation and daily living expenses.

Career opportunities vary according to your specialty.
Applied Psychology (Counselling)
Help individuals, families and groups in areas related to personal well-being, interpersonal relationships, work, recreation and health in both acute and chronic life crises.
Applied Psychology (Health)
You can work on health promotion campaigns with the government and NGOs, or work with clients in hospital settings or private practice to assist clients who may have chronic pain, chronic disease or require palliative care.
Applied Psychology (Sport and Exercise)
You can work in sports academies such as the Australian Institute of Sport as a psychologist for weight management programs, sport development officers or run your own practice with a focus on sport and exercise psychology.

To complete the Master of Applied Psychology
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Applied Psychology, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #32 from the MAppPsych course list. Refer to the MAppPsych program rules for further information.
