Why study the Master of Exercise Science?
The demand for exercise science practitioners is currently expanding at an unprecedented rate, however many of the opportunities are restricted to Exercise Physiologists who are accredited with the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS). The MES has been specifically designed to permit suitably qualified university graduates to meet the requirements for AAESS accreditation in 2.5 years of intensive study and clinical training, instead of 4 yrs of study which undergraduates are required to complete. Among the organizations that will only permit AAESS accredited Exercise Physiologists to provide exercise science services are Medicare (the National Healthcare scheme), Workcover and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Students who successfully complete the degree will acquire specialist skills and knowledge in the prescription and programming of exercise, with extensive practical and professional experience within the health and fitness industry. Students develop an understanding of the principles of scientific method, critical analysis and research design and apply them to professional practice. They will appreciate the role of exercise scientists in health promotion, injury prevention and effective treatment planning, implementation and evaluation.
