How to applyWhy study the Graduate Certificate in Nursing?
Within the Master of Nursing program, the School of Nursing and Midwifery offers a Graduate Certificate in Nursing. The Graduate Certificate in Nursing is ideal for registered nurses who do not currently hold a Bachelor of Nursing, or the equivalent. It also allows students to taste postgraduate study without making a commitment to a Masters degree, and enable others to exit the Masters program after one semester of study (full time equivalent) with a qualification.
Once successfully completed, students will be eligible to enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Nursing, the Master of Nursing, or the Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies programs. There are 8 units of study in the Graduate Certificate in Nursing consisting of one core course (Evidence Based Health Care), two field-specific courses and one elective course. As with the Master of Nursing, students will be able to select from five fields of study for specialisation, including Children & Young People's Health, Primary Health Care Nursing, Chronic Disease Management and Palliative Care, Gastroenterological Nursing, Rural & Remote Nursing, or use the generic Advanced Practice Nursing field tailored to suit your own specialist practice setting.

What you can do with a Graduate Certificate in Nursing
Careers
On completion of the program graduates will be able to achieve the Competency Standards for Advanced Registered Nurse, or equivalent specialist competency standards and will be well qualified to take on advanced roles within their speciality practice area.

To fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student must obtain #8 from the GCN program list.
