Prerequisites
An approved nursing degree or equivalent and be eligible for an unrestricted licence to practice as a registered nurse in Australia.
A minimum of five years full-time equivalent (FTE) experience as a Registered Nurse including; three years FTE in a specialty area and one year FTE at an advanced practice level in the relevant specialty area of practice.

Applicants must also provide evidence of:
- Confirmed support from employing health care agency for the applicant to complete all professional experience requirements of the course;
- Active involvement in professional organisation and contribution to the ongoing development of the nursing profession.

Delivery Mode
All courses are external however; NURS7001 and NURS7003 each have a one-week compulsory residential school in Brisbane.

This program may have inherent requirements that need to be met prior to undertaking placement.
For applicants who need to provide evidence of English proficiency, please note that this program requires a higher level of English language proficiency than the UQ minimum.

Why study the Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies?
The Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies is specifically designed to prepare experienced registered nurses to function autonomously and collaboratively in advanced and expanded clinical roles. As a nurse practitioner you will provide innovative and flexible healthcare delivery that complements other healthcare providers.
You will receive extensive clinical and theoretical knowledge, which will equip you with the specialist skills required for the expanded role as a nurse practitioner. You will develop skills in assessment and management of clients that may include but is not limited to the direct referral of patients to other healthcare professionals, prescribing medications and other treatment modalities including ordering diagnostic investigations.
The nurse practitioner role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible healthcare delivery that complements those provided by other healthcare providers. The scope of practice of the nurse practitioner is determined by the context in which the nurse practitioner is authorised to practice.

Academic advising
Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Endorsement (NMBA)
The registration standard on endorsement as a nurse practitioner states that an applicant seeking endorsement as a nurse practitioner must be able to demonstrate:
- current general registration as a registered nurse with no conditions on the registration relating to unsatisfactory professional performance or unprofessional conduct;
- the equivalent of three (3) years full-time experience in an advanced practice nursing role within the previous six (6) years from date of lodgement of application;
- completion of a Board-approved nurse practitioner program of study at Masters level or equivalent as determined by the Board;
- compliance with the National Competency Standards for the Nurse Practitioner and;
- compliance with the Boards registration standard on continuing professional development as a registered nurse.

Program rules for the Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies
To complete the Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #24 from the MNPractSt course list. Refer to the program rules for further information.
