Prerequisites
- a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below); or
- the Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies from this University*; or
- a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline plus 2 years full-time equivalent, relevant work experience supported by references (see below).
You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.
*Please note if a graduate certificate is used as the basis of entry into the program and you do not have a degree in a relevant discipline, you will not be eligible for credit towards the Masters program.

Why study the Master of Museum Studies?
Museum Studies is an inter-disciplinary field of study that encompasses museum history, theory and practice. The program delivers the professional training required for those interested in pursuing careers in the museum and heritage industry whilst at the same time, providing for those already working in this sector, the opportunity to develop or enhance existing skills and interests.
At UQ, our focus is on developing a critical awareness of the social, cultural and political issues facing those working in the museum and gallery sector, whilst providing the hands-on practical skills necessary for professional practice. Engaging with the University's world-class museums and collections together with leading professionals in the field, UQ provides a uniquely stimulating environment for museological research and training.An inter-disciplinary approach is used to deliver core courses through the School of Social Science, with a broad choice of inter-departmental and cross-faculty electives.What you can study
Participants are able to choose from elective courses including Anthropology, Applied History, Art History, Classics, Event Management, Interpretation and Visitor Research, Professional Writing, and Science Communication. The scope of the courses offered presents students with a broad range of perspectives and identifies the most vital contemporary questions and concerns in museums, and in museum studies.
