Additional application information
Work experience desirable but not essential. Applicants sit an aptitude test set by the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies before being admitted to the program. The MAJIT program offers an optional summer study program in Japan between the first and second years of the program. Arrangements with Inter School and ISS enable students to undertake in-country interpreting training at the school of their choice.

Why study the Master of Arts in Japanese Interpreting and Translation?
This is a professional program providing training for students with very high levels of competence in the Japanese and English languages as translators and conference interpreters. It covers four broad, interlinked areas of study: theoretical and practical training in interpreting techniques; theoretical and practical training in translation techniques; training in ancillary skills such as public speaking and job-specific research; and training in professional areas such as ethics and business skills.

- Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Careers
The program trains graduates for work as conference interpreters and/or translators. It is anticipated that graduates of the program will gain employment as interpreters and/or translators or else upgrade their language skills to a level where they can be used in the practice of another profession.

To complete the Master of Arts in Japanese Interpreting and Translation
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Arts in Japanese Interpreting and Translation, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #32 from the MAJIT List comprising -
- #16 from Part A; and
- #16 from Part B.
