Entry requirements

Prerequisites

Approved degree in the same discipline with a GPA of 4; or

Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same discipline, with a GPA of 4.

Additional application information

Same discipline is defined as a degree with demonstrated prior learning in the field or education (which can include music education, teaching English as a second language, allied health, sport sciences). For the field of Behaviour Management, this may include a degree with prior learning in social work, social sciences, psychology, policing, criminology or criminal justice; for the fields of Career Development and/or Guidance and Counselling this may include a degree with prior learning in theology, psychology, or human resources; for the field of Leadership this may include a degree with prior learning in human resources.

To satisfy the requirement for "same discipline" a minimum amount of content in that discipline is required - this would be at least a major, field of study, or approximately 30% of program content including a mix of introductory and advanced courses.

Students who already hold an appropriate tertiary qualification and are interested in becoming qualified to teach in secondary and primary schools should apply for admission into the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or the Masters of Teaching (Primary). For further information on this program consult the handbook on the School of Education website or contact the School of Education on telephone (07) 336 56550 or email: education@uq.edu.au

Domestic students enrolled in the Master of Educational Studies (Guidance and Counselling) may be eligible to receive income support payments and should contact Centrelink to determine eligibility.
