This program starts in summer semester and is a full two years in duration, including a second summer semester.
Please note: this program requires a higher level of English language proficiency than the UQ minimum. IELTS overall 7; writing 6; speaking 7 is required.
Students are required to provide proof of immunisation against certain diseases, including hepatitis B before the commencement of study.
A Senior First Aid Certificate (including CPR) and a Blue Card are also required before the commencement of clinical practice. Further details of these requirements will be provided with offer material.

Why study the Master of Occupational Therapy Studies?
This program equips graduate entry students with the theoretical knowledge, clinical skills and professional attributes necessary for a career in occupational therapy.
In addition to a focus on clinical occupational therapy practice, emphasis is placed on the use of prior skills and knowledge to enhance the effectiveness of occupational therapy practice; and the development of advanced adult learning skills for ongoing professional development.
What you can study
This program focuses on the practice of occupational therapy, interdisciplinary clinical studies in child health, psychiatry, and pathology, and directed study courses in the first year.
In second year, management, research, and advanced clinical practice is covered.

Placement courses
Some clinic placements are outside the Brisbane metropolitan area and students are expected to fund their travel, accommodation and daily living expenses. A range of locations for placements is utilised. Students submit their interest and preferred areas for placements. Accommodation may be at local nurses quarters for Queensland Health placements for a minimal cost. Full-time placements are of 5 or 10 weeks duration and occur in the summer and second year of the program. Allocation will be as equitable as possible and issues of hardship will be dealt with at the discretion of the Head of Division.
Students cannot undertake placements outside Australia and New Zealand except:
- International students may be permitted to undertake a placement in their home country;
- Placements which are arranged by UQ staff in conjunction with another University as part of an established fieldwork exchange relationship;
- Placements in developing countries supervised by UQ staff (or staff of other approved Universities in an established placement program).
For all overseas placements, the student must have an acceptable prior level of performance and the Course Coordinator must approve the timing of the placement. Note: Overseas placements are not generally recommended for a first
Research component
The program incorporates advanced training in clinical reasoning and independent research. There is an option to undertake a research project.

To complete the Master of Occupational Therapy Studies
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Occupational Therapy Studies, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
