Why study the Graduate Diploma in Journalism?
The program is professionally and vocationally-oriented, catering for existing journalists who wish to upgrade or broaden their qualifications and for graduates from other disciplines who wish to master the basic principles and practices of journalism. In this program, students will develop professional skills in journalistic research and investigation, news writing and news reporting. Students will also gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical foundations of journalism practice and the media, and will have the opportunity to take elective courses in feature writing, broadcast, multimedia, photojournalism, and medical and science reporting. Journalism graduates will find career opportunities in a wide range of print and broadcast media organizations, in Australia and overseas.

What you can do with a Graduate Diploma in Journalism
Careers
Journalism graduates will find career opportunities in a wide range of print and broadcast media organisations, in Australia and overseas. New career opportunities exist for journalists in the growing area of online communications. Past graduates are employed in metropolitan, national and regional newspapers, commercial radio and television stations, web and multimedia publications, as well as in allied fields of publishing, marketing, communications and public relations. Some choose to be self-employed and work as freelance journalists and photojournalists.

To complete the Graduate Diploma in Journalism
To fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Journalism, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #16 from the GDipJ List including #8 from Part A and #8 from Part B.
Students who have a major in journalism or who have been graded according to the Australian Journalists' Association's grading structure may substitute another postgraduate course approved by the Executive Dean for JOUR7511. Refer to GDipJ rules for further information.
