Prerequisites

BPharm(Hons), or MClinPharm (coursework/research), or equivalent. Registration as a pharmacist (must be a registered pharmacist in Australia), and two years professional pharmacy experience.

Additional application information

There is a quota of 5 international students in the program, therefore applicants with a GPA below 5.5 are not able to be considered. Offers will be made to the highest ranking applicants only after the closing date.

For applicants who need to provide evidence of English proficiency, please note that this program requires a higher level of English language than the UQ minimum. IELTS overall 7; writing 6; speaking 7 is required.
TOEFL test results are not accepted.

Why study the Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy?

The program aims to provide students with knowledge, skills and abilities to -

  • practice effectively as a clinical pharmacy practitioner involved in medicine use and pharmaceutical care
  • individualise, review & monitor a patient's medication regimen
  • demonstrate clear communication skills in clinical/non-clinical scenarios
  • critique & apply research methodologies relevant to clinical pharmacy practice
  • understand management/social issues in pharmacy and their relevance to clinical pharmacy practice
Small group interactive teaching and discussion settings are the usual teaching method format, and student participation is encouraged.

Some sessions of teaching occur on wards at teaching hospitals across Brisbane, illustrating the practical use of drug therapy.

Various practitioners and academics teach the courses. Expert hospital and community pharmacists contribute significantly to the teaching together with medical and other healthcare professionals.

The program may be undertaken where the applicant resides if appropriate facilities exist. An option exists to study externally.

Students undertake a substantial research project & specialty clinical electives. A major strength of this program is the emphasis on clinical practice and evidence based medicine.

To complete the Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy

To fulfil the requirements of the Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain #48 from the DClinPharm List comprising -

  • #36 from core courses; and
  • #12 from elective courses.
