Why study Mine Ventilation?
One of the most critical aspects of mining underground is design and management of mine atmospheres, where failures can result in highly publicized deadly disasters such as gas and dust explosions, or long term health issues such as silicosis and black lung. Ventilation of an underground mine is of critical importance to the safety and health of workers. Mining Engineers, as leaders for the industry, require a deep understanding of mine ventilation in their roles. The education of underground ventilation principles have vast application for all different types of underground mining operations across the world as well as civil engineering tunnel projects. The importance of mine ventilation has also been recognized by the industry regulators with the statutory requirement of Ventilation Officers to be appointed in both coal and metalliferous mining sectors in Australia.
What you can study
Examination of airflow, ventilation network, heat and refrigeration simulation and dust, fire and gas management.
What you can do with a Mine Ventilation
Careers
Mining Engineer with a good understanding of ventilation design. Mine Ventilation Engineers, Tunnel Ventilation Engineers.
