Why study Fundamentals of Skin Cancer Diagnostics?
This module is designed to provide a fundamental knowledge base with respect to embryology, anatomy, physiology, dermatoscopy and dermatopathology as they relate to the diagnosis of skin malignancy. We guide the student to concentrate on exploring and understanding concepts and issues that are essential if skin malignancies are to be correctly diagnosed and therefore managed appropriately. A very significant emphasis will be placed on dermatoscopic-dermatopathologic correlation as this is fundamental to skin cancer management. A case of melanoma can be expertly assessed and diagnosed, but if an erroneous pathology report is not recognised and responded to the expert diagnosis of the clinician can be neutralised.
What you can study
Module 1: History, Embryology, Evolution, Vitamin D, Microanatomy, Melanin/Melanocytes Module 2: Clinical examination, Introduction to dermatoscopy; Algorithms; Language of dermatoscopy Module 3: Chaos & Clues Module 4: Prediction without Pigment Module 5: Dermatopathology To access the full course profile, see here.

Careers
Students are expected to include general practitioners, nurse practitioners, melanographers and other health practitioners involved clinically with skin cancer practice who do not wish to make the full commitment to the Graduate Certificate or Master offerings, and practitioners in other industries such as beauty and hairdressing who may wish to up-skill. This module will provide essential knowledge regarding the diagnosis of skin cancer for those across a range of professions.
