UQ's Bachelor of Social Science is unique in its approach & delivery, with a strong grounding in social justice, policy research, & strong links to industry. It provides a foundation of knowledge in key social issues & problems, while also fostering practice-based skill development for immediate entry into employment, including skills in public policy design & evaluation, social impact assessment, social planning & research.
The program provides diverse skills that will enable you to work in areas that address pressing social issues at local, national & international levels. Amongst these are rising poverty & inequality, the gender pay gap, homelessness, unemployment, Indigenous peoples & injustice, health & illness, refugees, & the social impacts of climate change. Graduates develop skills, values & knowledge that are sought after by employers in the public & private sector, as well as non-government organisations, including the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences, theoretically informed cross-cultural awareness, social research skills & a strong ethical compass. Course work provides in-depth knowledge & skills related to social issues, the ability to identify and analyse social issues & problems, and to develop solutions based in policy & practice.
