Why study the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours)?
The Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours) degree will prepare you for an exciting career as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (including Accredited Exercise Scientist). Accredited Exercise Physiologists are recognised allied health professionals who design and deliver exercise interventions for the prevention and management of a range of musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, metabolic, neurologic, cancer and mental health conditions. They can also provide advanced health and physical activity education, advice and support to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Medicare and many private health insurers recognise and cover services supplied by accredited exercise physiologists.
The UQ Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours) degree is the only undergraduate clinical exercise physiology program in Australia where you will graduate with a highly respected Honours qualification.
What you can study
During this program you will learn how to deliver exercise-based lifestyle and behavioural programs for people at high-risk of developing, or with existing, chronic and complex medical conditions and injuries such as musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and depression. You will be involved in a variety of ongoing practicum experiences with 'apparently healthy' clientele and high-risk, 'chronic and complex medical condition' clientele.

Placement courses
Students will undertake approximately 600 hours of supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes hospitals, a variety of health care organisations and fitness facilities (including sporting teams). During their placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework to practice and develop their clinical skills in real life setting.
Students will undertake a variety of sessional practical experiences from year two before commencing block placements in years three and four.
Please note, some placement providers require students to provide a criminal history check and the students allocated to these placement providers will be required to supply this.
The School is committed to the reduction of urban bias in the content of its programs. Students undertaking practicum as part of their program could be allocated placements outside the Brisbane metropolitan area. Allocation of placements will be as equitable as possible and issues of hardship will be dealt with at the discretion of the Practicum and Clinical Education Manager. Where allocated placements are allocated regional, rural or remote students should expect to fund these placements independently.
Honours
Honours will be awarded to all graduates of this program.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists and Accredited Exercise Scientists have skills that can be applied to a variety of clinical and exercise and sport science professions.
They may work in a variety of settings including private practices, home health services, hospitals or clinical services, research centres , or community health and fitness centres.
