Why study the Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours)?
This program is an advanced 4 year degree in economics and finance for students who are proficient in mathematics and have a keen interest in both areas.
At the end of year 3 students will decide if they wish to take a more professional, employment oriented pathway or a dedicated research pathway (ie major) in either economics or finance.
To undertake a major in economics, students must have obtained a GPA of 5.5 for Part A of the program, and a grade of 5 in the following courses: ECON2050, ECON3010, ECON3020 and ECON3350; or satisfy the executive dean that the student is suitably qualified to undertake the major.
To undertake a major in finance, students must have obtained a GPA of 5.5 for Part A of the program, and a grade of 5 in each of the following courses: FINM2411, FINM3411 and FINM3412; or satisfy the executive dean that the student is suitably qualified to undertake the major.
Students applying to change program and/or applying for credit on the basis of previous studies should seek advice from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (bel@uq.edu.au). Please note that due to the pre-requisite requirements for compulsory courses, it may take longer than anticipated for students with credit to complete the program requirements.

To complete the Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain 64 units from the BAdvFin&Econ(Hons) course list
comprising -
- 48 units of compulsory courses from Part A; and either
- (1) Students who wish to complete a major:
- 16 units from one major in Part B; or
- (2) Students who wish to complete the professional pathway:
- 4 units for a Team Project; and
- 12 units for elective courses from Part C.
