The LANTITE is not yet a requirement for graduation or registration for students in Queensland. We are encouraging our final year students to sit the test this year. Successfully completing the literacy and numeracy test may be advantageous to our students' future employment prospects, particularly if they are planning to teach in other States or Territories that have made the test compulsory from 2016. The University has made a significant commitment to our initial teacher education programs and students in undertaking to meet students' expenses in sitting the test. Why study the Bachelors of Mathematics/Education (Secondary)?
The dual four-year program allows students to combine their passion for mathematics, with the necessary skills, knowledge and practical experiences required for teacher registration and employment. Students benefit from a thorough preparation for their teaching areas combined with, and informed by, their professional studies in the area of education. The Education component offers school based learning and draws on the latest research into effective teaching, ensuring that graduates are well equipped to teach. Students completing a dual degree with education are prepared for secondary school teaching, or training in business or industry. Teaching is a challenging and rewarding career, with secondary school teachers in demand worldwide. In the Mathematics component you will choose from a wide range of courses in mathematics and its applications. In first year, students study essential topics in calculus, linear algebra and differential equations. In later years students select from more specialised courses. These emphasise new ideas in mathematics, and include recent applications in coding and cryptology, mathematical physics, mathematical biology, bioinformatics and finance.

Program rules for the Bachelors of Mathematics/Education (Secondary)
To complete the Bachelors of Mathematics/Education (Secondary)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelors of Mathematics/Education (Secondary), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #64 in total, including:
1. #32 from the BMath list, comprising:
- #14 from Part A;
- #16 from Part B; and
- #2 from Part B or Part C or other elective if approved by program director.
AND
2. #32 from the BEd(Sec) list, comprising:
- #16 from Part A; and
- #16 from Part B.
