Why study the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology?
The Bachelor of Veterinary Technology will equip you with the theoretical and practical skills for a career as a para-veterinary healthcare specialist. You'll study animal handling and care, welfare and behaviour, applied and clinical nutrition, mechanisms of animal disease and diagnostic techniques. You'll also learn about clinical aspects of small and large animal health, veterinary pharmacology veterinary surgical and medical nursing principles, and veterinary practice management.
You can choose from a wide range of elective courses to broaden or focus your skills. Enhance your skills by concurrently enrolling in the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, the Certificate III in Rural Operations or the Farm Ready program.
The Bachelor of Veterinary Technology may be used as a pathway into the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) program. After having completed 1 or 2 years in the BVetTech, you may receive up to 10 units of credit for select courses. Please contact UQ Admissions, should you require further information.

Additional application requirements
You'll be exposed to animals and agricultural environments as part of your learning. Immunisations against tetanus and Q fever are mandatory and you'll be required to provide evidence of immunisation upon commencement of the program. Q fever screening and vaccination is currently only available in Australia. Refer to the UQ Student Immunisation Requirements for more information.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology
To complete the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology
To graduate with a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology a student must have successfully completed all requirements of the program as certified by the Executive Dean. This includes courses to be taken to complete the program and any other specific conditions of the program including admission, enrolment and progression requirements.
