Additional application information
Students are required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing the practicums. Students can apply for a Blue Card through the School of Education and should do so three months before their practicum is due to commence. The Practicum Handbook provides additional information about practicum and school experience requirements and is available from the School of Education.
The LANTITE is not yet a requirement for graduation or registration for students in Queensland. We are encouraging our final year students to sit the test this year. Successfully completing the literacy and numeracy test may be advantageous to our students' future employment prospects, particularly if they are planning to teach in other States or Territories that have made the test compulsory from 2016. The University has made a significant commitment to our initial teacher education programs and students in undertaking to meet students' expenses in sitting the test. Why study the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours)?
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) is a pre-service teacher qualification designed for effective teacher preparation in the unique contemporary context. The program develops capacities required by teachers working in the information age, a time of rapid change where education is recognised as playing an increasingly important role in society. The program develops teachers across prep to year 6, spanning the Early and Middle Phases of Learning. In particular, the program focuses on the development of skills, understandings and attributes that enable graduates to demonstrate specialist abilities with respect to:
- Literacy and numeracy
- Diversity and differentiated learning
- Leadership and research
- Connected practicum
What you can study
Minor studies are available in applied linguistics, Chinese, computer science/information technology, English, French, general maths, general science, geography, German, health and physical education, history, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Music, Philosophy, Spanish, and studies of religion.

- AITSL advised the university that, in the future, students in an Educational/Teaching degree will need to satisfactorily complete the Literacy & Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students.

To complete the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
To complete the program, a student must co mplete 64 units from the BEd(Primary)(Hons) course list.
