The LANTITE is not yet a requirement for graduation or registration for students in Queensland. We are encouraging our final year students to sit the test this year. Successfully completing the literacy and numeracy test may be advantageous to our students' future employment prospects, particularly if they are planning to teach in other States or Territories that have made the test compulsory from 2016. The University has made a significant commitment to our initial teacher education programs and students in undertaking to meet students' expenses in sitting the test. Please contact the School of Education for further details (education@.uq.edu.au) or visit the School of Education office. For more information on this Government initiative please visit the Students First website For more information on the test, including sample tests and registration information, please visit the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) website.

Why study the Bachelors of Music (Honours)/Education (Secondary)?
This dual degree program is designed specifically for students wishing to pursue a career in music education, incorporating advanced research training in their chosen Music Honours field. In the first two years of the program, all students take practical study in their chosen instrument or the human voice, as well as courses in music history, techniques and aural training, plus electives from popular music or other courses. Students then undertake three years of courses relevant to their specialisation in music education. Final Year students have the opportunity to undertake teaching area courses that investigate the 7-12 Music syllabus, instrumental teaching and choral music education. Graduates are thoroughly prepared for the variety of teaching contexts expected of music teachers throughout secondary school , while also being equipped to undertake postgraduate studies in music.
