Why study the Bachelor of International Studies?

The Bachelor of International Studies at UQ gives you a gateway to an exciting career. Our new three-year degree program provides you with a broad knowledge of cultural and world issues and prepares you for a career in the global workforce. The core components of this degree are language skills and cross-cultural awareness, as well as knowledge and skills in specific disciplines with an international focus. The program includes a compulsory study abroad semester at one of UQ's partner institutions.

What you can study

The International Studies degree program offers a range of majors to facilitate each student's career needs and professional goals. All students are required to study a major in a language other than English as well as another major from a range of options including international economics, history, or international relations all designed to provide an understanding of trans-national organisations and global negotiation. To further international and intercultural awareness the program also includes a compulsory study abroad semester at one of UQ's partner institutions.

What you can do with a Bachelor of International Studies

Careers

The Bachelor of International Studies will prepare you for a wide range of careers in international agencies, governmental organisations and the global private sector, both in Australia and around the world. This degree program also facilitates careers in international non-profit or global institutes such as UNESCO, UNICEF, or the World Health Organisation.

To complete the Bachelor of International Studies

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of International Studies, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

#48, including:

  • core courses equivalent to #12
  • a #16 major in a language other than English
  • a #16 major from a list of majors with strong international relevance
  • one semester of overseas study at a partner institution
